Mexico’s forests, jungles, and mangroves are under siege, with deforestation, diseases, and fires threatening to decimate vital ecosystems. Every year, about 180,000 hectares (equivalent to 336,000 US football fields) of Mexican forests are lost to deforestation for agricultural expansion or timber, pushing the local community and culture to the brink.
In partnership with The Earth Lab, ClimeCo is taking action to help make a meaningful impact as part of Bonos Jaguar del MayabPhase II Reforestation and Preservation Projects, supporting the local Mayan community.
ClimeCo and The Earth Labare helping to restore 72,651 hectares of semi-evergreen rainforests in the state of QuintanaRoo. This project focus on carbon sequestration, ecosystem conservation, biodiversity protection, and community engagement through restoration and improved forest management. Beyond the critical environmental benefits that this project supports, it also provides economic resilience to the local community and income dedicated to preserving Mayan cultural practices.
